A couple or so weeks ago I happened to catch an episode of Giada at Home where she made apple fritters (among others). This reminded of an elaborately done similar recipe I found in my copy Yummy magazine. The one in Yummy asks for egg, nutmeg, milk salt and an optional cinnamon sugar dusting. Its also called “apple tempura”, I’m sure it tastes good but for me a lazy cook (on lazy bleary mornings) that’s too much.
Oh, I so cannot remember Giada’s batter mix. I was focused on her giddy demeanor everytime she appears on TV. She’s so adorable! Except sometimes I think she’s showing too much cleavage. I do know I wasn’t the only one who noticed, thing is I found out that she made a commercial (?) where the canned tomatoes was advertised sexually. I sometimes find that cute but I’ve only seen Padma’s so my opinion might
change.
For now, let’s continue with my apple fritter.
Well, mine is so far the simplest and probably the
easiest to make.
1-2 pcs green apples
1 cup flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 pinch salt
1 tbsp baking powder
water/milk
2 cups non-flavored oil
Wash apples then pat dry. Peel the apples using a paring knife or peeler. This procedure will allow the batter to stick to the apples. After peeling, trim off the ends then core the apples (or use a round cooking cutter after slicing into discs). Slice into rings.Pat dry again with paper towels, working quickly to prevent oxidization.
In another bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients. Make sure the consistency of the batter is the same as a hotcake’s. Dip each apple ring into the batter then drop into the hot oil. be careful of splatters! Fry in batches until golden brown.
Serve as is or sprinkle with powdered sugar.
It was raining again. That’s all because of the recent visitor “Sendong” who devastated Cagayan de Oro and its neighboring provinces. Thank you to each and every person who donated their time, money and in-kind donations despite hardships.
