Bento Dilis and Grilled Eggplant
In this tiny town where I live, eggplant is abundant. The deep violet about a
foot long. I like them grilled over charcoal, peel the charred and blackened skin then either fry it with egg like a torta (fritter?) or sautee with
garlic, onion and tomatoes seasoned with soysauce. In this bento I just
chopped the eggplant with chopped tomatoes and onions drizzled it with soy
sauce.
I’ve been jonesing egg rolls and tamagoyaki for sometime now so I went ahead and made one. This eggroll is dotted with thinly sliced bitter gourd and red bell pepper. This one’s duck egg by the way so it’s a bit darker in color.
After taking enough pictures to choose from I went to see Vince. Vince is my
cousin Alvin’s cousin. A precocious, foulspeaking yet sometimes adorable 3
year old. He seems to like me very much, actually he does, you see most times he would ask his mom for me and sometimes visits me at home.
So I went to see Vince with my bento.
A few minutes later, he stabbed a piece of egg roll and chomped it down fast.
That was phenomenal. You see this kid, as his mother told me, doesn’t like bitter gourd at all!
That is rewarding.
