Today’s my mother’s birthday. Normally we’d have this big celebration (since it’s summertime) where we prepare whole roast pork or an array of lamb/goat dishes and the mandatory pansit.
I woke up early. I mean 3 am early and started planning the day ahead. She, being unimaginative for some reason, decided to just spend her day with her friends and some relatives with a few merienda specials.
–pansit
–macaroni salad (gah, again?!)
–spaghetti (tomato based sauce with beef and additional ham)
–she’s still thinking about what to add
For dinner she asked me to make another pork hamonado or something close. I’m thinking slow cooker pork with pineapple glaze and some salted black beans.
So as I let the morning pass, I decided to have some garlic bread.
You will need:
4-5 pcs day old bread (sliced)
2/3 cup olive oil
3 tbsp grated garlic
salt, to taste
Procedure:
Heat an oven grill over low flame. Meanwhile, evenly coat the bread slices with the combined grated garlic and olive oil. Grill until well toasted and dark marks appear. Sprinkle with salt to taste. Serve immediately.
That time all I wanted is the garlic bread so I didn’t think of pairing it with any drink at all. It is incredibly delicious and simple. I love this kind of food, simple, no fuss and easy to make. perhaps later I’d go and find some day old bread and make more of these to pair with the pasta. I think that’s a good idea.
I’ll post additional photos later.
I’m always up for some garlic bread! Happy birthday to your mom 🙂
Thank you Joey for the greeting and the visit.
Maligayang araw sa nanay mo.
All the best, Jenny
Salamat po. Sabi niya, mas sumarap yong spaghetti ko this year, ma-mi miss nya daw (I’m moving back to Manila kasi)
Where are you from? I am currently in Bicol right now but wont be back in Manila till July..
My hometown is Isulan, Sultan Kudarat ( 1 1/2 hrs from General Santos City).
Wow…never been to Mindanoa..hoping one day, I get to visit..
I can’t recommend any place at all. I’m not really the travelling ( i mean how I want to travel but too lazy to do so) type. Although my Filipino friends from the US told me that Davao is a good place to visit and Surigao (or is it Siargao?) as well.
I do browse at your travel photos to feast on our beautiful country.
I have relatives in Davao..I guest that place is pretty safe…One day..one day…
When I lived there for less than a year, I felt safe and I am paranoid. *cringe*
I’m looking forward to more of your travel photos! Oh, this makes me hope we’d bump into each other someday. That would be good noh?
Yes, it would be good if we bumped into each other one day in Manila. I infact met one blogger in Legaspi. He is a poet and his blog is Shifting Poet.
Oh, I’ll check his blog ( I was once a school paper published poet/editor haha I’m bragging).
Sorry the name of the blog is Shifting Shades
Why not published your old poems…bloggers love poetry!
Looking back and reading them at this point of my life I feel so different. There is a vast difference. I’m still thinking about publishing them (in my non food related blog), maybe soon.
I’d let you know, would that be all right?
What is your non food related blog? I would like to visit it and say hello ;). Sure when your ready and take your time..
zofabulous.wordpress.com –relatively new
Just about to check your blog..
